just a few things (again!!)...

Maia's been with me for a week now. For the most part she's wonderful! Her nose is starting to shed too now, yay!
Foodwise though, I'm afraid she's not eating enough.
She loves her salad. I make this insane salad that looks delicious. However, with crickets she's not impressed too much. Maybe she'll eat only 10 MAX a day.
She's about 6.5 inches.
I see people who's dragons eat a few TIMES that. So I have the feeling she should be eating more. So what can I do?

Also, is she still too small to put on sand? She's on reptile carpet right now, but she wants to dig it seems and that's not good for digging.
I wasn't going to put her on sand.. and then I saw the digging thing, so what can I do for that? I know the sand is bad but how can I facilitate this need of hers?

My Bearded Dragon seem to go through changes as to his eating habits. Some weeks he'll eat ALL the veggies/fruit and ALL the crickets I can throw his way, some weeks he turns his nose up to 1/2 of it. Is your's loosing weight ? or showing any abnormal signs ?. I would think that after only 1 week she's still adjusting.

As far as sand,,,many keepers will move to sand as the Bearded Dragon grows. I prefer not to as there is still the risk of impactation regardless of age/size.

10 crix are better than no crix, lol...Just keep offering whatever she will eat, she will increase overtime. She is to small for sand, try shelf liner, or newspaper,,one of my adult females will dig the newspaper then go into her hide.

see that's the "big decision"....
I think at 6.5 inches she's still too small to be put on sand... but are there any other options?
She doesn't seems to be losing weight. Then again, I should probably get a little food scale so I can weight her
She's active and really social still so I guess no.
Maybe you're right, she's still agjusting. I've been prepping myself for the huge cricket binges that I keep reading about!! Thank God there's a pet store less than a mile away from my house.

is newspaper safe?
I work in a kennel in a petstore and whenever I'm sending a puppy home I tell them to use the housebreaking pads instead of the newspaper because some ink can be toxic if it comes off onto their little paws and they lick it.

A lot of times the variance in the number of crickets reported fed is due to the difference in the size crickets that each person is feeding. In other words if they are feeding larger crix they eat fewer than someone that is feeding hordes of smaller crickets.
You should be feeding crix about the length of the distance between the beardy's eyes.
And I use newspaper in every enclosure I have. But only the black and white parts.
Even the ones that have aspen have newspaper underneath it to ease cleaning.

the crickets are just the perfect size then, good. I tihnk its partially still due to the fact that she's only been here for a week.
Maybe it's the colored newpaper that can be bad..I just remember reading about it online when I got my puppies

I've heard of some people putting in a washcloth or handtowel for them to dig in...Haven't tried it myself but mine (9 months) has just now started scratching.

It is my understanding that the BW is soy based ink and non toxic, at least in the US.
The colored pages are another matter.
