I've owned four Bearded Dragons and they were all bought when they were babies. Most Bearded Dragons have good temperments no matter what age you buy them at. It's really up to you on what age you want to start with. The babies take a little more care that the adults, but whatever age know what the reality is of what you're getting into.
As far as pricing for food, the best bet is to order from a reptile store on the internet that sells crickets. There's a ton of them and I don't want to play market director for any of them. Just do a google search and if you still can figure it out then I'm sure someone here will point you to a good one.
If you do order from the internet, don't set delivery for in the afternoon. I've made the mistake and the crickets were dead. If you do afternoon delivery then the crickets are sitting in a hot truck all day and they can easily die. Morning delivery is the way to go and it normally doesn't cost much more, if any at all.
I hope that all helps.

Also, if you choose to go with a babie,,,the tank mentioned above will be way to large for it for awhile, hatchlings can live in a 20 gl long for about 4-5 before needing to be moved.

if you want a baby, make sure its atleast 6-8 weeks old... thats when I would want to get MY first Bearded Dragon, they are soooo amusing...
Marsha is right though, a baby will need to be in something smaller the first few months...
