Sexing Beardies
Does anyone know how old a Bearded Dragon has to be to be able to determine the sex? And, how do you do that? I would like to be able to tell what sex we have already before I purchase a second one.
Thanks for the help.

I find males are REALLY easy to sex. I've helped the petstore down in our little town sex a baby that a friend of mine was buying. I think its a bit more difficult with the females...my male was OBVIOUSLY one at 2 months. It was finally concluded that my female was, infact, a female when she was around 5months.

As Jayr said, if you are experienced it is quite easy to tell the sex of a dragon from just a few weeks old. Males are easier to sex as females can sometimes turn out to be "under-developed males"
Check out the following link - http://www.hognose.co.uk/4.html at www.hognose.co.uk which shows diagrams and explanations for sexing Bearded Dragons.
It must be pointed out that in no circumstance should a bearded dragon be probed or "popped" to sex them, and while this process is not 100% certain of gender it is safe for the lizard.
When we have hatchlings I will generally initally sex them after their first week and then each week after that to see if they remain male/female. If I'm not absolutely sure I will sell them as un-sexed.

Thanks Jayr, that website belongs to a friend of mine. I find the pics really help with a description, though there's nothing like experience and the more you try and sex a Bearded Dragon the easier it will become Angel.
I didn't ask - how old is your dragon?/how big? If you need some help you could also post pics if you are able and we might be able to advise you.. You need to hold the dragon flat on your hand, gently lift up the tail and press down on his/her back, just at the base of the tail. At the tail side of the cloaca there should be either two bumps with a dip in the middle or a single bump in the middle or nothing, indicating a male and female respectively.
