I work as a media specialist in an alternative school. We service grades 7-12. An Alternative school deals with the students who can’t cut it in a regular school situation. There are many different reasons why; behavior, attendance, grades, home environment, etc. I was asked just before school let out my one of our middle school teachers to do the book Holes on tape for his students. We are always trying to somehow get the students engaged in books and reading. After we finish the book we will watch the movie and do a compare and contrast paper. I usually try to do something special when the book is finished to relate to the story or subject. To make a long story short I was wondering if any of you bearded dragon lovers out there would be willing to instant message or video conference with the students about bearded dragons. I know the lizard sense in the movie intrigue kids. This would be your opportunity to answer questions and get rid of myths about dragons and reptile in general. Any takers? This wouldn’t take place until some time after February, as I’ll have to work with the tech people to set this all up.

To make it easier for everyone, I could actually setup a chatroom for them to use. If the bearded dragon owners would be able and willing to sit in, there could be a question and answer session via chat. This would allow the students the ability to sit in together if you have some computers available.

I have 14 computers in my media center that we could use for a chat room situation. Also if anyone was interested we could work on video conferencing. Each school in the district has a videoconference room and we have a coordinator at the Intermediate school system that could coordinate this.

I have one bearded dragon at this time and will bring her in so they can actually see what one looks like. I think this is going to be great!! Thanks all.

I'll be able to work on setting thing up when I get back from medical leave on the 9th.
