Some say do some say don't...
I would love to know once and for all if I could keep a single bearded dragon,or do they need the company of other dragons?
I once asked in a pet store wher I don't go anymore, and the woman said, they need to be in a group, but I think she needs to say that because she wants to sell as much as possible!
In nature they are solitary animals really,so why sais everybody they need each other in captivity??
I got the book from Liz Palika:'Your bearded dragon's life;your complete guide to caring for your pet at every stage of life'.
But it doesn't really say if they can live single. It just saya that they are addictive and when you have one you soon will have a second and a third one, lol!
What would you suggest for someone who doesn't want to breed them?(I just found out that I'm very bad at breeding;I don't mean the caring, looking after and bringing up the young,I mean the giving-them-away part! I'm terrible at that;for 10 month I brought up my 24 baby fish and now I sold them to the pet store.I almost cried and I worry if they come to a good place and if they will be kept properly and all. It's terrible,I'm just too sensitive for the breeding business )
Anyway,I'm looking forward to your answers and experience and opinion!

I have 2 Bd's that have been alone in seperate tanks all of their lives exept when we take both of them outside or on the floor together. Only when breading we had a female and male together. I would say the petstore was trying to get more money out of you. Hope I helped.

They are better by themselves Jacky. I do have some paired up and they seem to tolerate each other (it took some maneuvering to find compatible pairs) but they really are happy alone. Especially if you take him/her out regularly for some loving.

Hey Jacky..as stated above, they do not need companionship..lol. . But most of us tell ourselves they do in order to have more than one.

Reptiles are not social animals. The thinking that they "need" a companion is based on comparing them to mammals or birds and has no bearing on the reality of their true needs.
As Marsha stated it also gives us a good excuse to get another one!
But Honey he seemed soooooooo lonely!
And
IT WAS ON SALE!

LOL Marsha and Merlin!!!
So basically it's just like with the snakes;when it looks like they cuddle or,in Bearded Dragons case, ride on the back of the other one, they just want to be at the same place at the same time?!

Yep, i'm in agreement with the others- Bearded Dragons do not need company and live quite happily alone, after all they are solitary animals in the wild, that is they don't live in social groups, but bear in mind that in the wild many will inhabit one area meaning the live alongside each other without trouble.
You can keep one on its own no problem, we have ours in pairs and groups and they do very well together - they spend a lot of time together, and our stud of a male, Osiris, hates it if we take his girlies away from him! So basically, the choice is yours.. have one if you want just one, although I dare you to only want just one! LOL
By the way, I've been after that book for years but it went out of print and everywhere I looked it was around $70+.. where did you get it and for how much??? Thanks!
