Exo-terra pellets
Hi!
Has any of you tried feeding exo-terra pellets in an exo-terra food dish?
Pog hasn't eat any. I don't know if he doesn't like them but it seems that it's because they are the same color as the dish and he can't "see" them.
Any ideas?

There are some Bearded Dragons that will not eat pellets. I have a few that will and a few that wont..try a different color of dish and see if that works..

The thing is that Pog eats the zoo med brand pellets but they are colored using artificial coloring agents, that's why I changed to the exo-terra ones but strangely the colors match

My Bearded Dragon wont eat anything that isn't moving or orange, he used to nibble on pellets, but not anymore, he's so fussy! I have to trick him into eating everything!

We've never tried feeding our dragons pellets, but I doubt they would eat them anyway, they are pretty fussy with foods they like
I would advise though that you don't feed the pellets too often - I believe it is far better to feed a staple of crickets and other insects, and fruit and veg - pellets are not a natural food source for Bearded Dragons, and should only be fed as a treat. Also, food colouring isn't something I would really want in my dragons' diets, so I understand why you switched brands,. have you tried mixing the pellets with the veg, or trying them in a different coloured bowl? - it may well be that the Bearded Dragon just can't see the pellets! It also might take a while to switch, the pellets may taste different?

After trying a white dish and having the same results, I think I found the answer after reading carefully the labels on both packages: the exo-terra pellets are not cricket scented like the zoo med's.
He eats some if I apply some canine psychology to it, i.e., offering the pellets after pretending to eat some =)
I'm not a fan of pellets but I have two major reasons to get him used to them:
- Cricket availability is not reliable in stores (for example, for the last 3 months it has been almost impossible to buy them) so I must have anything to go with the veggies;
- So far they have proven to be the most reliable solution to maintain his hydration levels, hence my new saying: 10 soggy pellets a day keep dehydration away =)

Well, that's a good saying! If they work for you then that's great. Have you tried the internet for live food? I don't know if there's anywhere available to you but we buy all our live and frozen food online, as it's far too expensive in the shops and not as good!
Re. the non-scented pellets.. could you get some scenter for it? That might work!

Yes, I tried the net but the majority of the companies I contacted don't ship to Portugal. Because of that and also the outrageous price of crickets here, I decided to breed my own. I'm on the third generation and should have around 5000 crickets by now.
I was thinking about getting some cricket scent to add to the pellets but the less chemicals I feed him the better. I'll try a heavy dose of persistence and patience first =)
Thanks for the tips!

Or you could always sit around rubbing the pellets on a cricket!!

LOL!! =)
I guess my wife wouldn't be surprised after what she has seen me doing in the last few days when we have experienced a serious heat wave. After the first 2 days I had an explosion of crickets in the "incubator" box. There were so many pinheads that they formed 2 or 3 layers on top of each others. Moved them to a bigger box and spent 5 hours separating them from the pooped substrate...
