black toes
We got a new pair on Friday. They are somewhat shedding, but we noticed that the male has black on his toes. Is this normal, or is this a sign of a problem?

It could be a sign of old shed or injury.

Are they just black or do they look shriveled or distorted at all? Does he walk on them fine? I don't know if the same goes for Bearded Dragons as does iguanas (since they are so different) but iguanas can get dry gangreen infections
( http://www.anapsid.org/gangrene.html) or 'blackening skin syndrome' which is a common name for multiple problems ( http://www.anapsid.org/blackskin.html) or he may just have black spots....my Bearded Dragon goes in and out of color changes like mad! Either way good luck with him!

Or it may just be dirt or feces from being kept in not so clean conditions. Try running about an inch of water in a sink and let him soak for a bit and see what happens. Don't be surprised if he goes a bit spastic at first and expect him to poop in the water. If so drain and clean the sink and put in fresh water.

Thanks for the replies!
I have bathed them a few times already. I don't see any signs of shedding on the toes, but they look fine and he does have full use of them, which doesn't really lead me to think disease.
I'll try to post a picture today. Maybe that will help.
Thanks again.

Sometimes soaking alone doesn't help if it's been a while since cleaning. Try a soft bristled toothbrush, he won't like it but if it's fecal matter or dirt, it will work for sure.

You were right, Merlin! It was fecal matter that must have been caked on him for a very long time. I am so dissapointed in the people that I got him from.
You see, I asked my husband to pick him up for me. I guess when he got there, they had the Bearded Dragons all packaged up and ready to go.
I'll know better next time!
