crazy question

This is what our member has to say: Have any of you ever had a proven female breeder pretend she's a male, by trying to mate with another female?...

Not with BDs, but with leopard geckos. It's actually kinda freaky to watch.

Yeah....it was the weirdest thing.

Normally all my dragons (except the hatchling) are housed separately, but to make room for all the new babies that are coming and the rescues I take in, I figured I'd put my 2 most compatible females (as witness in their community playtime arena) together in the large tank.

They did the typical head bobbing and submission stuff, once Beauty was established as the boss, they seemed to get along fine. They each have their own caves, basking spots and food dishes and yet choose to share nicely. They've been together 2 weeks now and the other day Beauty (who had a successful clutch last season) decided she was gonna pretend to be a boy and did a better job at it then my male (of course minus the hemipenes).

My thoughts.....Do you think this action will make Levi produce infertile eggs? If so, should I go ahead and breed her with one of my males (better to be productive than wasteful)?

I know I said I was gonna stay away but its just so interesting! I have read that in the wild (rarley in captivity) females mainly from the agamidae family will mimic male courting actions to establish dominance over other females...BUT I have never heard of it going that far. I dont know how far this goes psycologically with the "violated" female thinking she's been "knocked up" ( this is why I was gonna stay away!!) but I dont think it would hurt to try just incase she does.

I was talking with a breeder and he said he keeps two females together because when one of them is ready for breeding she starts demonstrating male behaviors. I have also read about female mimicking males to establish dominance. Maybe she has a lot of hormones flowing!

lol....I know it's kind of a touchy subject.

It was really hard to make the post, but I figured if we can talk about their poo's, why not something as strange as this.

Wendy, it could be she wants to breed (it definitely seems like Levi will....lol). I was thinking it was another Passive dominance action too.....cause they don't flare, bite or ram each other.
