Convincing to rescue?

Hello,

well, right after christmas we went to my relatives in new york and my cousin who is....not the best person, got a bearded dragon because it was "cool"

when she told me I was curious so she showed me

and she is not taking care of it at all, she has one heat lamp in the middle of a small cage, with no UVB light, it is on sand (controversal subject, but I say bad) and no hides

she had a small water bowl and a bowl with letuce in it, and then there were crickets just around the place

also she said her cat is obsessed with it and is always with it, so im assuming its stressed out

she told me that she doesnt ever take it out because she doesnt like it but its cool, and he brother (who doesnt live with them) plays with it sometimes

i dont want it to die because its pretty new there and looks healthy so far

my dad mentioned me taking it but I couldnt tell if he was serious or not

but id have to convince my cousin and my mom to let me rescue it

i know the care info on them since I was planning on getting one before, but I got a red tail boa instead.

any advice on how to convince them?

You might try explaining to them about Metabolic Bone Disease and the fact that without the proper (expensive) UVB lamps, (which have to be replaced every 6 months) the dragon will end up crippled, deformed in body and die a very painful prolonged death. You might try concentrating on the adults since it seems your cousin is only concerned with the "coolness" factor. Add that it won't be nearly so "cool" to watch it becomed crippled and die.
