Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
Hi Rockford, Il. That's where my sis lives! Check out some of the previous suggestions. So far by the pictures it looks like he is responding well, and poops are a good sign.

Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
Well to those of you that gave procedural suggestions thanks a bunch! To those of you who said "put it up for adoption, go see a vet." Thanks for the opinion but no thanks for the repetition and lack of insight. If I can find another home for the guy I will, but having him here is better then letting him die off in the back room of Petsmart. So please, go flame somewhere else =D

Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
They aren't flaming you really, it's just concern for the animal. When an animal is sick and someone posts as looking for help, often we're not vets, we can't diagnose the problem. So we suggest a vet. Some members, myself included, have never heard of those types of programs that were posted about different alternatives with rescues and such, like what lizardgal suggested. Never heard of it but it's not something every place has.
We've seen people in the past who have posted for help for a sickly herp. Some of them would rather be ignorant to the fact their animal needs a vet, not bother to shell out the money to take them and look for some home remedy they can do at home, later their pet dies and they wonder why.
This is not saying it's something you are doing since you have explained your situation but it sounds kind of rude when you say you don't want the repetition of people saying "see a vet" when they are only doing what is first response here for a sickly animal.
No one is telling you to let it die off somewhere.

Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
You know I was just trying to help you find a place that you can get help without paying a bunch. I know how it is to be limited. I don't want to be mean or anything but if you don't want peoples opinion don't post your problems here. Everyone was just trying to help. I know sometimes people can make you feel insecure but they are just concerned about the health of the pet. I hope I didn't misunderstand anything it's just that remark about telling people to go flame kinda was like you don't need our help. Maybe I took it wrong.

There is no flamming going on here and please keep the thread civil or I will be forced to close it. You asked for opinions and you are getting them. No one is TELLING you what to do, only suggesting and giving their opinion

Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
Nobody flames anyone HERE!
The fact that you are being told something which YOU do not wish to hear (like "go to the vet!") is not flaming, only good advice.
The long and the short of it is, this animal needs to see a vet. Your description of the leg sounds like it may be an injury that is infected and the leg itself may be dying. This sets up a chain reaction where the infection progresses into the body and kills the lizard! But we cannot be sure of whether or not this is the case based on a picture in a post! This animal needs to see a vet to be sure.

The location doesn't matter! If nothing is going to be done and the animal allowed to suffer and die, the end result is still the same!

Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
The Bearded Dragon does need to see a vet and I am trying to work that out for him. The go flame somewhere else comment was directed towards a "if you can't afford to bring your Bearded Dragon to a vet you shouldn't be breeding leopard geckos" message I received on another thread.
Crickets and meal worms can be home grown using basically table scraps. I'm starting up an operation like this and considering using it to feed my geckos. The idea of breeding them in the future sounded fun if I can get my cricket colony and mealworm colony going.
The Bearded Dragon needs a vet, I understand this, I will try to make it happen for him if I can. Just don't want people to think because I took in a sick animal that I abuse my pets... when I saw the Bearded Dragon it would have hurt me to leave him in the backroom at petsmart. I have a friend that works there and she tells me that when the animals go there they are usually just left to die off =/
*Edit - I did over-react and I understand everyone is looking out for what is the best for the animal. This one fell into my care too suddenly and maybe I wasn't fully prepared for a calcium deficient Bearded right now.

Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
I owe you guys an apology.. full-time college and close to full-time work can be frustrating to make ends meet. It hurts me to not be able to give an animal what it really deserves =/

Re: Adopted Beardie, NEED HELP ASAP
Apology accepted. You are not alone in making ends meet. I am right behind you with eight animals and a full time career of 23 years. Some vets may have a payment plan. Try the carecredit it may work for you and it may not but it's worth trying. There is always hope in some way, just got sit down and figure it out.
