New Addition!!
So, I went to the pet store just going to buy crickets for my two full grown bearded dragons and the owner of the store is sitting down at the cash register holding this little 3 inch baby bearded dragon, very alert and active, just watching everything. I guess him and his wife got in a fight and it was her or the reptiles so this little guy was the last one left and I felt very bad becuse it obviously isnt over 10 inches which is the recommended length to sell and no one was interested in the little guy cuz he was soo small. So I looked at and started the,, oh how cute thing and next thing I know the guy put it in my hand and said" dont worry about payment u can have him" so I walked out of the pet store with a 3rd BD for free and a free bag of rabbit pellets to put it on. Im so excited he's so pretty and colorfull he's red and yellow. The only thing i'm worried about is that he's so small. He was housed with like 4 other Babies before they were sold. so im wondering if it was a domanence issue. He has no problems with running around at all. I got some finely choped romain in there and he crawled up and started chowing down right away surpisingly he likes veggies so soon. I was expecting a fight lol. Anyways one question how often do I sprinkle the dust, everyother day like normal or less or more?
Oh I named him loki.. :P ill get pic when he settles in a bit more. |

Re: New Addition!!
Congrats. But I wonder why you are using rabbit pellets as a substrate ? I would also refrain from feeding romaine lettuce, it has very little nutritional value. Post pics of the little guy when you can.

Re: New Addition!!
I was told along time ago that rabit pellets are safe for baby Bearded Dragons sense they cant ingest them like the sand. Also, that they can dig and stuff like that in it with out haveing any danger. he was in them at the store and I used them with my baby Bearded Dragon. about 2 yrs ago its the compressed alpha kind. ill give him a week then take pics.

Re: New Addition!!
Since he is so small, i would keep him on paper towel for now as a substrate. And instead of romaine, try collard greens

Re: New Addition!!
I have a mix of mustard greens, collard greens some romaine and parsley should I use that on him thats what I use on the bigger guys. Baby's are a whole new ball game. lol. Didn't think it would be much different, glad I have this website and I decided to read everything I could including care sheets. I don't care who u are theres always something new. One question though I came across this website that talks about this disease called Av and that it seems rather common among BD's. I never heard about it before but should I get my BD's tested. i have been thinking about it, all my BD rarely ever get sick so I'm thinking I'm ok. Also can I get a better definition of AV. sense I'm going to be owning a pet shop that specializes in reptiles this sounds like something I need to know about. thanks.
One more thing can they eat cabbage? |

Re: New Addition!!
You need to toss the pellets. It is not sanitary and holds moisture and there is no way to get the Bearded Dragons waste out of the tank. When it gets wet it will mold. In the event he does happento get a pellet in his mouth, he could choke and die. Babies should be placed on paper towe, newspaper, shelf liner or tile.

Re: New Addition!!
Just letting you I made a few changes I bought tile and put it in the tank and I have changed diets to mustard greens, kale and dandelions. Its got a new uvb/uva lights, and I cut out the little guy a hide out of a carbored box.
He seems to enjoy it. |
