Rocks

First of all, sorry for asking so many questions. It's just I plan on getting a Bearded Dragon soon, and I want to be prepared. (Yes, I've read the caresheet.)

I live in an area with alot of rocks. My question is, If I find a flat rock outside, how can I sterilize it to use in the Bearded Dragon's tank? Bake it? Soak it? Or would I be better off buying an artificial rock from Petsmart or something?

Re: Rocks

Just pressure wash it off and it'll be fine.

Re: Rocks

Scrub it with a 1-10 bleach solution, rinse well.

Re: Rocks

I'd like to add a question: I've been wanting a basking rock for Loki, but most of the rocks here are sandstone, which is of course very porous. Can I still sterilize them easily?

Re: Rocks

Yes. if you soak them in water first and then wash with the bleach solution, the bleach will not have such a tendency to soak into the stone.
If you prefer to use the boiling water technique just dip the sandstone in the boiling water and pull it right back out.
If you heat it too long and the stone has any air pockets in it, it may explode!
