Proper Sized Enclosure for BD X2??

Hello, I was wondering what the proper sized tank would be for two adult bearded dragons? A female and a male. Right now they are separated but would like to introduce them for mating in the future.

Thanks

A lot of breeders use what are called 40 gal. breeder tanks. These are a bit shorter than the average 40 gal. fish tank, but the floor space is larger.

However be aware that housing them together will result in the male breeding her over and over.
This will stress her body out and could seriously reduce her life span.

Thanks for the info.

I'll be sure to keep separate enclosures and have them together for short periods of time every few months, thanks again you two.

Re: Proper Sized Enclosure for BD X2??

Do you just want something for breeding purposes or fulltime togetherness? A tank that is 4 long x 2 wide x 2 tall is fine for 2 adult Bearded Dragons but bigger is always better when house multiples. More floor space and less height is better for them.

Re: Proper Sized Enclosure for BD X2??

Just curious..
If you keep two BDs together, male and female, do you have to do anything to get them to want to mate?
Like lowering the temperatures and such.
Is there a way to keep them together without overbreeding the female?

No they will take care of it themselves. My pair is always wanting to go at it but are kept seperated!

Not really. Having more than one female in the tank will help but they will still breed.

Yes, that is fine, but as said before bigger is better.
