Typical Yard Plants- Are They Safe?

I was thinking of taking Loki for his first trip outside today, as it's our first sunny day off since we moved to a home with a yard. However, Loki is in the middle of a hunger strike (we're trying to encourage him to eat more veggies) and I'm worried that if I take him out, he'll try to eat fresh plants or lawn clippings. We don't use any poisons or chemicals on our lawn, but I'm still concerned about what wild plants could do to him.

Keep an eye on him.I don't let my guys get more than a foot from me and they are always leashed. You would be amazed to see how fast they can run.

If you watch him intently, which should be the only thing you are doing when you have a reptile outside, you should be fine. Usually they are too terrified to move, let alone eat.

How long have you lived in that yard? I know pesticides and fertilizer can hang around for a while.

Do you have a hip leash? As for plants, I'm sure someone will chime in. I don't think there are any plants to worry about but I could be wrong.

Yes, but once they do take off its hard to catch a Bearded Dragon, they are extremely fast, lol. The natural UVB and heat will help with his appetite, so you might want to take some of his veggies outside for him to eat while he basks.

Some landscape plants are toxic. Azaleas for instance.
Here's a quick list but it isn't all inclusive.
ASPCA: Animal Poison Control Center: Toxic Plants
A good rule is, if in doubt, don't let them eat it.

Re: Typical Yard Plants- Are They Safe?

@shlegelbagel: We have only been here about a month and a half, but we rent, and our landlords don't allow chemicals. I feel safe about that.

We do have a leash for him, but if no one is 100% sure about plants then I'll try to keep him on the patio. He'll probably like the warm concrete, anyway. We ended up not getting to take him out today, but hopefully there will be lots more sunny days to enjoy with him in the future. Thanks everyone.

Just be very careful about the temperature of the concrete. If you can't stand on it barefoot its too hot for the lizard.
