Vegas May Be Leaving

We have had an accident with our home and my husband and myself may have to move into his parent's home. His parents have made it rather clear that they don't want a lizard in their home especially one that will take up a lot of space. I do understand them and realize that it is their home, but I have put so much time into Vegas and A LOT of money to keep him only because I thought he would be around for quite a long time. After all of my efforts I am very reluctant to just give him to anyone. It is hard enough to have to find a new home for him; I don't want to be in constant worry about how he is doing. This has gotten me all stressed out. The bottom line is we are going to be without a home of our own for quite some time and Vegas cannot come with us. Is there anyone who knows of any rescues, shelters, or anyone who would take him in? I live in East Texas. Thanks!

I think Marsha is in your area, she may know a good rescue... Any chance you can find a school or preschool to see if they will keep it as a classroom pet until you can get your home back?

Im more southwest of Houston. Do you have a friend that would be willing to keep him for a bit? Do you know how long you will be out of your house.

I hadn't really thought of that, but with school getting out soon I would be reluctant to ask as it would be the teacher's full-time pet at home. I know several teachers in the area but none that whom would really be interested.

Re: Vegas May Be Leaving

It was a mobile home that we were staying in while plans for building were being shaped. Fire and basically half is gone. We will be staying with his parents until our home is built. They do have a pretty large garage that I am trying to see if he can stay in.

Re: Vegas May Be Leaving

I hope everyone is ok!!! Maybe if you explain to them how much he means to you and promise to keep him in whatever area the tank is (garage/bedroom ect)? What is it that they are worried/unhappy about?

Re: Vegas May Be Leaving

We were only in the house for about a month so luckily a lot of our stuff wasn't even in their yet. Just moving here from Indiana I don't really have any close friends so I'm not exactly comfortable with asking anyone to take him in. My good friend here is afraid of him. My nephew had a Bearded Dragon a few years ago, but I heard he neglected it and it eventually died really young. I am pretty hopeful about the garage. They have a little built in cubby where shelves used to be. My only concern with the garage is that it has no door on it and Vegas is in a very open enclosure. He has a welded wire top and foreign bugs that will be attracted to his light worry me, and other animals that roam around also worry me. Am I being paranoid or are outside bugs falling into his cage not an actualy concern? Right now he is in a closet and really freaked out about everything. My husband's parents live right behind and got Vegas out of the house but put him in the cricket's 10 gallon tank on the porch until I got home. I even asked my parents and my mom is afraid of him and my dad is too busy. I know I will find something that will work out, but it is rather stressful so far. Thanks for so many suggestions!!!

Re: Vegas May Be Leaving

This space is my only option if I want to keep him. The enclosure he has now will not fit in it, so I would have to get something else for him. And will have to make sure that outside critters and bugs won't be able to get to him.
