Is one breed of dragon better then another. Is the size, temperament or anything something that I should be thinking about when I get a dragon?

I am going to get a one and would like to know if I need to think about a specific breed.

What do you mean by "breed?" Do you mean species?
A breed basically refers to a different form within one species. Chihuahuas and St Bernards are different breeds but still the same species.
The inland bearded dragon which is what most people see. There is also the Rankins dragons which are smaller and not as easy to breed are occassionally available but rarely at least in the US.
I don't beleive the other species are available.

I have seen people refer to their dragons as german giants and hypo etc.

That is what I am asking about.

Those are more commonly referred to as "morphs".
They are all the same animal just differences in appearance so "breeds" would be applicable but not commonly used terminology.
The "German Giants" do get somewhat larger.
Hypo etc just referrs to a given color. There are also "snows," "Sandfires," "Citrus," "reds" Golds," etc.
As far as care and temperment they are all identical. Its just which appearance appeals to you.

Thanks for the info. There is a breeder near me that is selling a baby dragon for $40. Would you consider that a good deal? Anything I should look at when I go to possibly by him?

Make sure the baby isn't too much of a baby.
Some "breeders" sell babies far too early and they are a bit delicate and more difficult to deal with. They should be at least 8 weeks old.
Check for signs of diarrea around the vent and any sign of it in the cage. Make sure the eyes are clear and alert. Make sure the nostrils are clear and no sign of mucous or sounds of wheezing when it breathes. The dragon should be active and move easily and be active. Check for missing toes or tail tips. Its just cosmetic. This doesn't necessarily mean that there is anything wrong but babies will nip the toes and tails of cagemates and if that sort of thing is important to you chose another one. It would also be nice if you could see them feed.

I really like the morphs, some are just georgeous, but rarely is it worth it just for a pet (especially when being asked to spend 3x a normal). $40 could be a good deal as long as the baby is healthy and whatnot. As Merlin said. Thats alot cheaper than what they go for around here.
