crickets
My hot rod is having trouble passing crickets. He never had this trouble before.I was going to take him to the vet today due to him not having a bowel movement. So I let him soak in warm water this morning for about 20 minutes. My god you should have seen what come out of him.Shells of crickets that had bounded him up inside. He gets greens every day with about 10-12 crickets per day.Any suggestions to why maybe he is having such a hard time passing the crickets now? Also can I take him off the crickets and just feed him greens?I just dont want to give him something that he is having a hard time passing.

Re: crickets
Sometimes heat plays a large part in digestion. What are you basking temps? When do you feed him the crickets?

Re: crickets
And how big is the dragon and how big are the crickets you are feeding.
Another possibilty is internal parasites. These will affect digestion.

Re: crickets
His basking temp is 105 with the rest of the enclosure being at 95.The crickets are various size.Anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch long.He is 18 inches long.He is a pretty good size.Far as the parasites I not to long had his stool checked.Well I had all my rep's checked and they all was cleared of any parasites. He had the same problem with mealworms. So I stopped giving them to him and he did better far as being regular.I feed him twice a day being of greens and about 5-6 crickets at each feeding. What ever he does not finish I remove from the enclosure. He gets veggies every other day with his greens.Am I over feeding him maybe?I mean what ever he does not eat gets removed.

Re: crickets
Your temps are fine, maybe try changing the feeding pattern ? I feed mine veggies in the morning and the crickets in the late afternoon.

Re: crickets
Are the frozen mixed veggies ok to give to him?I read that they was fine to give.I would rest easier knowing from someone who has a great deal of knowledge about Bearded Dragons.I thaw them out of course.I pick out the corn, must consider what it does to us humans, lol. So its mostly green beans, lima beans, carrots, and pea's.He also gets fresh veggies as well ,like summer squash, sweet potato, shredded carrots.I try to change it at times so he wont get tired of the same o things. He also gets several types of melon once in awhile far as fruit goes.Watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew.

Re: crickets
Freezing vegetables destroys the thiamine in them, a diet high in frozen foods can result in a thiamine deficiency. I have used frozen veggies in a pinch but fresh is better, plus buying fresh forces me to eat more fresh veggies so I consider it a good thing!

Re: crickets
You should also be feeding more in the way of greens. Collard, mustard and turnip are the basics. Most just use the recommended diet for iguanas for the Bearded Dragons.
