B D species?

I hope this is in the right section: I have been reading around here for the past few days and noticed a few times where different species are mentioned (maybe species isn't exactly the right word, types is possibly more accurate?). For example I have seen something like "howardlondi" mentioned I may be totally off on that term. If you have no idea what I am talking about, forgive me (can you smell the newbie on me, lol?) I was just curious how you can tell the difference.

I have one baby bearded who is a basic looking brown/green color and another who is more of a blonde color with orange and green coloring. I figure they are just different variations on the same type but was curious if they could be different. Thanks in advance!

Re: BD "species"?

You have about 8 different species, but you also have different morphs (colors and phases). Here is a link to wiki, scroll down to species that will explain it.

Bearded Dragon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The most common in captivity are the Barbata, Lawson and Vitticeps.

Re: BD "species"?

If I may include another question on Bearded Dragon species that I've come across. What exactly is a German Giant Bearded Dragon?

Re: BD "species"?

I dont know how exactly to explain it, but I did have a pair and they are massive in size. Its another one of those genetic things. They are very large and babies are usually healthier than normal babies. Teh females tend to lay larger clutches as well.

Re: B D species?

Also, the typical "bearded dragon" you usually see in pet stores are inland bearded dragons, Pogona vitticeps. Marsha also mentioned the other two most commonly seen in captivity, though their numbers are dwarfed by all the P. vitticeps out there.

Re: B D species?

Wow, that is great info ~ thanks! I'm sure they are the common "vitticeps", but it is interesting how many different types there are. Thanks again!
