thinking of a beardie

i was looking at beared dragons and thought it would be cool to have one. i would want a hatchling to juvy and was wounder how much they should cost. because I noticed that so places jack their price up and I dont want to over pay. i would also like to know how easily they are kept. and what are their specific needs lighting, substrate, tank size, heating ect.

I don't know where you are from but if you're from the US, you can find them from free to several thousands dollars.
I would advise you to consider adoption first. Many members here belong to animal shelters so they can help you out finding one in your city.

As for the rest, there's a bearded dragon caresheet here on the site, just browse to Articles -> Caresheets and it's there! =)

If you can't locate one from a reptile center. Probably not likely if you're loking for a hatchling. The next place to look is at a reptile show. You'll always save big bucks there. It can be as little as half what you pay at the inflated pet store prices. Of course they have to pay their bills to I guess.

First thing you need to do is read the caresheet, it gives all information.

The tank you are getting from your friend would better suit a bearded dragon than a water dragon

And I would really advise you to go slowly. Learn all you can and get your waterdragon doing well before you have to try to learn the ups and downs of another species.

Make sure you do alot of research they are awesome pets but can be difficult. They are a lot of repsosiblity and alot of work! Good luck though. You could go to a show and get one for 15-350 bucks! Even more but not for baby or juvies really.

i wasnt going to get one right away I was going to wait at least a few moths but I was just trying to see if they were a good choice for me. and how much of an investment they would be. at the pet stores near me the cheapest I saw was 120 for juvy and 60 for hatchling. and they even breed them there.

60 for a regular colored hatchling is about right for petshops. About half that at a herp show.
However you have other thngs to consider. Bearded Dragons need high temps and UVB lights. The heating and lighting equipment will cost you a lot more more than the dragon itself will.
Baby Bearded Dragons eat crickets,....LOTS of crickets.
And a single adult Bearded Dragon is going to need about a 40 gallon tank.

Another thing that many people forget to figure in when they get a new herp is how much your electric bill is going to jump. Do your research, ask questions, we are here to assist you and point you in the right direction.
