Maybe he just has a bad aim  They have excellent eyesight, but our adult male for example is terrible at catching crickets - he always misses

Yeah, most predatory lizards have pretty good eyesight. Sometimes they just have a bad aim, or they're just too excited that they miss the food. Kinda like people. We have excellent eyesight compared to most animals, but not all of us have a very good aim when it comes to certain things, like archery or basketball or something.

my guys miss all the time too I think they get so excited they kinda jump the gun and get those tongues out way to soon hehe
