New Beardie!!

Well, I didn't plan on this really. Earlier in the week someone brought their Bearded Dragon in and it was just looking pathetic, really small, really skinny. They people had NO clue what to do or how to take care of it. So we (the pet shop) agreed to take it in. Realizing well, we have some sort of better life for this thing.
We moved it from it's 5.5 gallon tank into one of our little setups.
THe poor thing is probably like 2 or 3 months old and it's thin and TINY! It's MAYBE 5-6 inches..
It ate and ate and ate....

Well, the little thing started really scratching at the glass in our tank too.
My manager offered it to me.
At first I hesistated, but I consulted with Marsha on the matter earlier this week.
Both are females. And of smallish size.
So right now, Maia has a friend/little sister.
They're in a 30 gallon tank for now.
I switched things around in there before I put the little one in and I let them meet outside the tank and they kinda did their own little thing and climbed all over each other and started licking each other... so far so good.
I'm going to take both of them in to the vet sometime next week and do a fecal test for both of them. As well as a general checkup too.
The people said they got the Bearded Dragon at a reptile show. I was surprised that the breeder wouldn't educate the people on how to properly take care of an animal. I'm a little upset by that...
She's a beautiful dragon. Looks like a normal mixed with some form of orange. I named her Molly.
Maia and Molly
UNFORTUNATELY, I can't post pics! My parents SWIPED the digital camera and took it with them on their trip.
I'm sooo mad. SHe's really beautiful guys.. you're just gonna have to trust me on it.

In case it doesn't work out, I have enough tanks and stuff to separate them. I'll probably end up giving the little one to my boyfriend if they don't get along. I've covered him into a Bearded Dragon fan too
But I'm crossin my fingers cause this little one is beaaauutiful.
And then this week, they're going to get a new viv build so they have enough room while growing up. It's going to be a temporary (while I'm still living with my parents). But this up comming week is proving to be an interesting one already.

i just wish I had a camera so you guys could see how terrible she looks.
Maia is maybe a week or two older than her and she seems like a GIANT compared to her.
I guess though, that they probably got the little one right out of the egg and from the start she hasn't had enough to eat or any UVA/UVB

Congratulations on the new baby,...
NOW,...
I'm sorry but you just commited one of the worst mistakes a keeper can make!
You NEVER EVER, immediately put a new animal in with an existing one without a quarantine period in a seperate enclosure and preferably even in another room! If that is not possible at least on an opposite side of the room. Many of us in our beginning years learned this the hard way. You have no idea what this dragon has been exposed to or what parasites it may be carrying. If there is any disease or parasites you just exposed you current dragon to them. I would immediately remove the new one and separate them. I hope everything works out and the trip to the vet is a great idea!

In all fairness its possible that the breeder DID inform them but they weren't listening or decided they didn't really need to go to the amount of trouble required.
This happens quite frequently.

Gratz on your new addition, and I agree with Merlin, all my new herps get atleast a month of seclusion so I can monitor their health and prevent anything from spreading..

Not that I'm all that experienced with Bearded Dragons, but be careful how much you give the little guy to start out with. Remember he isn't use to eating a lot and he might eat too much and chuck it back up. No mealworms for a while either as they can sometimes cause impaction, due to their hard shell. I'm with the rest of the group on separating them for health reasons, then in a month or so re-introduce them and watch to see if they get along.

I will be doing the same thing in the next week or so. I adopted 2 adult Bearded Dragons about 6 weeks ago and plan on introducing my oldest Bearded Dragon to the group (all females). As she got ousted from her custom made cage when the two other came along. I had originally had it made for three so this is going to work out great. I'm planning on introducing them while they take their bath in the tub where there is no dominant Bearded Dragon. Then I'll be re-arranging the cage and see what happens.

Wow! has it been 6 weeks already?
Would you recommend keeping Molly in the QT tank for only a month or longer?
Would that be enough time?
I'm in no hurry really, this will give the little one time to grow too.
I've been feeding her like 15 crickets twice a day with veggies in the middle. She seems to like collard greens so at least I got that going for me.
I'm going to consider this, "fatten the little one up" time...

I guess I would want to make sure that Molly was heathy and fatter before I put them together, but what do I know.

I have been waiting for my original one to get closer in size to the two I adopted. They are 16" & 18" long but have the adult body (larger beefer looking) my girl is 16" but slimmer as she is only 9 months or so old. If the bath transition doesn't work then I'll wait a little be longer and try again. The only reason I'm putting them together is to have one less cage to clean.

The two adult Bearded Dragons eat about 24-30 crickets a day, 5 zomba and a salad plate size bowl of greens/vegs (for both). My littlest Bearded Dragon decided to stuff himself one day and I got to witness him throwing stuff back up.
