Concerned for Feona

I have had my Bearded Dragons for a few months now. I love them and tend to them daily. But I am really concerned for feona. I love her very much.

But when I got to pick her up, she runs away and then stops and her whole body twitches. And then when I do pick her up, her stomach area goes completely flat and she acts like she is parlysed. It freaks me out. After a few minutes of sitting on my hand, she is fine. But today and concerned. She has been in the same place all day long. And just 2 minutes ago, I dumped some crix in for them. But she has not moved and she is always the one who runs after the food. She is just sitting there for hours in the same position.

Well, just a moment ago she moved and snatched 2 crix. So I am not as concerned...

But should I be?

I;m not sure. But just for a precaution it might be safe if you remove the sand and replace with some paper towels for now. In case of impaction.

if she is impacted then soak her in warm water then rub her stomach, has she pooped latley and how long ago? dont worry just yet everyhing might be okay, there stomach do go flat when they are picked up mine does. Also how many crickets did you feed them the last feeding? Feona just might be not hungry. My Bearded Dragon's do exactly the same thing once in a while, just sit down and relax and evverything could be okay

Just try the rubbing thing though that I said above

hi anolee,

when you say her whole body "twitches," what do you mean by that? is it like she's having a seizure? or like she's doing the robot? or maybe she is bobbing her head...that sometimes looks like twitching. yes, females can do it too.

i am also concerned about her twitching, but maybe it's no big deal. in conjunction with the flattening out, it makes me think that it is something natural, if only an odd quirk of hers.

as far as feona's flattening out, that's normal. it is reflexive for a Bearded Dragon to think that anything coming at them from overhead is a predator. they will do that when they are scared or surprised. even my friendliest dragon quite often goes flat. and as soon as they know they're not in danger, they will calm down and be happy and friendly, like you said.

Aight, thanks for the replies. She is "fine", i think. I substituted the dust by TRex with a 1:1 ratio of Herpative and Reptical w/ V3 and she did not shake or go flat today. So I am hoping that helped her out.

TY for all the replies.

Mine still do the flattening out thing, it's just a "look how big I am I won't fit in your mouth" thing. I've never noticed shaking in any of mine though.

Mine flatten out too, it feels weird when they do that lol in your hands, Tolkein did that when I first introduced him to a locust, cause it was bigger than a cricket, he puffed out his beard and flattend out, it was funny to watch, like he was saying, hey im bigger than you! then he run over after about 2 mins and ate it lol

what's also funny is sometimes when I put mine in the bathtub they actually PUFF UP like a balloon! i imagine that this is a saftey thing for Bearded Dragons, being that when they fall into water or something they will float a ways this way...but it is so weird. it totally flipped me out the first couple times, but now I just laugh at the little guys...
