Can beardies eat.....

Can Bearded Dragons eat those crickets in a can? I forget the name of them right now...but they are supposed to be pre gut loaded and ready to feed. I know they also eat veggies and stuff but I hate the thought of crickets loose in my house....I value my sleep too much

You might be able to train them to accept them. Mine key in on movement. If it don't move they ignore it.

I saw the cutest little Bearded Dragon today and I was sooooooo tempted to get him....but the thought of crickets keeping me from my sleep is more than I care to deal with! LOL
Can you tell I don't 'do' bugs real well? I'll clean puke, poop and just about anything else all day....but noisy bugs just don't cut it...
I know if you get the crickets young enough that they don't make noise, but what about the ones that get away and hide in the walls?

You can get "silent" crickets, but you will still always get some that escape. We have a rather noisy one inhabiting our cellar right now, he's driving me crazy!

I wasn't at all keen on the idea of crickets before we got our Bearded Dragons, but I made myself put my hand in a huge box of them. If you can't deal with live food you can't deal with the lizard. Some Bearded Dragons will eat crickets-in-a-can, but as Merlin said, most home in on the movement of food and prefer the live crickets and other bugs. Also I think they are better for them.. at some point in keeping a dragon you will probably have to feed him something live, I wouldn't get one if you can't handle the food..

Having said that, you said you are more bothered about them keeping you awake than the actual bugs themselves?.. if this is the case why don't you consider keeping them somewhere in your house where they won't keep you awake? Although you do learn to block the sound out.. people who visit us think our living room sounds like a jungle, but we don't even hear the crickets chirping now!

Iv'e had a few crix keeping me awake too, gawd its driving me crazy lol, there is a really noisy one in the chams cage, and I cant find the little sod, and a few in the Bearded Dragons what he hasn't managed to catch, i now chill the crix for my Bearded Dragon which slows them right down and he eats them all up

So you could keep them in another room to block out the noise and when you come to feed him some just chill em till they stop moving, then when you put them in the cage with the Bearded Dragon, they start to get their movement back, as soon as he sees them move he pounces as the crix I have at the moment are really fast and jumpy, he struggles to catch em lol

I can handle the lizard...no problem (I have a 5 ft Iguana ) I just can't deal with the noise the crickets make...they drives me nuts outside, I really don't care to deal with them IN the house too!

Steel rip....cooling them is a great idea! But...how do you cool down just a few crickets for him to eat without cooling the whole lot of them? Some are bound to escape. Maybe I need a cricket eating cat huh? LOL

I'll have to think about this harder and longer...

i just put some in a bag, and stick em in the freezer for about half a min, but as soon as you put them back in the cage where the heat is they start to move, and my baby just jumps on them

Actually once you get used to the cricket noise, it can be rather relaxing. I dont even know they are in my house. As for the cricket eating cat...lol, I have a cricket eating dog. She can spot them anywhere.

The noise really doesn't bother us. In fact we like it on occassion. Being that Kathy and I are both avid campers, we just pretend that we are camping out and the crickets are singing us to sleep!
