who was it that had a Bearded Dragon impated with supers? b/c im having problems with my tigger and I was wondering how you solved it. did the BD poop naturally or did the vet flush it out? thanks.

Hiya SpeacilK, it was my Bearded Dragon Tolkein who was impacted off supers, I just gave him plenty of warm baths, I was going to take him to the vets, but things went naturally so to speak, I will not be giving him supers again, it made him poorly for at least 3 weeks, when he did finally poop it was nasty, plus he vomited off them too, supers are now banned in this house, back to normal mealies and only the adult Bearded Dragons get them, I hope your Bearded Dragon will poop for you soon, just give plenty of warm baths and masage while in the bath, belly down to vent, it worked for me.

And if that doesn't work there is a product called Can-o-pillars that works as a laxative for herps. It's in the reptile foods section at most larger pet stores.

well i've tried warm baths every day for a week and no luck. she looks like she is going to poop but it never happens. here is a pic of the way her vent looks while in the water.


i may try the laxatives, i fed apple last night hoping it'll loosen n her up. we'll so how that goes. and if nothing works definatley a trip to the vet thanks

Awww, it looks sore, is it, hope everything works out ok, it took about a week of baths for Tolkein, he sure did mope about, keep us updated....

i dunno if its sore. well the apple did nothing. at least if its going to it didn't yet. i think I might just try the vet and give her a bath there for him to look at her.i'll keep you posted.

I thought it was the Mealies that caused impaction, and the Supers that were OK to feed?

JW Are you getting your supers from a reliable source? If not they could possibly be giant mealworms (same size as supers just a little dif. in color) and they will cause impaction.

yes, a reliable source, and she only had four. she is 3-4 years old and until I adopted her 7 months ago she was fed on about 3 supers a day and 7 crix every other night. so these were her first in 7 mo.

i also got some prune juice. gonna give that a try

I also agree that mealies are worse for your Bearded Dragon than supers. We feed super and have had no problems. I guess it just up to you guys but I will never feed ours mealies again!

SpeacialK, did you ever get that problem taken care of with Tigger? When something similar to this happend with Dragu (she was constipated though, not impacted) I dipped a super in canola oil and within the hour she was pooping. But, since she seems to be impacted with supers, try a cricket or some other worm dipped in oil and give it to her. Worked like a charm with Dragu..
