cactus fruit

I was cutting up some cactus fruit to put in my bearded dragons sald and noticed there were small seeds in it. I wasnt sure if the seeds were ok to eat so I didnt use it. Does anybody know if they can be eaten by bearded dragons?

Thanks

I would presume that they are safe, since cactus is one of the natural fruits they would come across in the wild, however I cannot be certain so please don't take my word as gospel.

Where did you get it from? I've never seen it for sale over here, but I would like to try our dragons with it.

Try http://www.beautifuldragons.com - they have a list of fruits and veggies and the nutritional value of them, perhaps they might list something about the cactus.

Due to the seeds I would be hesitant to feed it. There are a LOT of seeds in there. I tried a peice once with my Iguana and she was not in the least interested in it. You might try the cactus pads though.

Rachel the cactus grows wild through a large area of the US. They are all over the place around here! Also areas where there is a large hispanic population will frequently have them for sale in stores. Its called prickly pears.

Aha, I did have one in a plant pot, but it died off, hehe. Which bit do you feed? - surely not the spikes? Think I might just stick to squash and greens. Buying enough prickly pear to feed my little lot would not be cheap

Both the fruit as well as the leaves (pads) are eaten by humans as well as a number of animals in the wild. The spines are scraped off the leaves. However I have seen pictures of tortoises munching on the cactus leaves right off the plant!
Must have some seriously tough mouthes!
