Crickets!!!
OK im having a cricket problem. First I had them in a 10 gallon . Problem was getting them from the 10 gallon to the 55 gallon. There pin heads really small , really hard to grab. So then I tried to put in my baby Bearded Dragon's in there ,but they get 2 afraid of the crickets. So then I decided to put them in a juice bottle. My friend does it like this , its pretty easy u just open the top and shake the bottle and they start flying out. But the problem is it starts getting foggy. it start smelling really really bad! I think im gonna go back to the 10 gallon not sure. Please tell me what to do. Wheres the best place to keep crickets? what do you use? And are full size crickets capable of jumping out of a 10 gallon tank?

You can get a rubbermaid tub with a lid and cut a hole in the lid and duct tape screen on there and keep your crickets in there. I guess it really depends on how many crickets you have. Alot of people order them online and get lie 100 or 500 cause its cheaper to buy them that way. If you just buy a couple dozen at a time buy a little kritter keeper thats clear with lid with holes in it and keep them in there. You need to gut load them and give them cricket quencher too. You can get like the cardboard egg crate stuff to put in there and they will crawl all over that and not die so soon and the smell will not be as bad either.

kritter keeper
I actually wouldn't get the kritter keeper. I put our crickets in there and the next day almost all of them had escaped. The lid was shut tight and I don't know how they got out but they did. The next time I put them in there and placed it in a ten gallon tank to see if they did it again.... next day 1 cricket left in the keeper, rest in the tank. Just wanted to let you know so it doesn't happen to you!
I now keep mine in a rubbermaid container and it seems to work good. |

A simple 10 gallon rubbermaid is great for housing crickets. I house 300-500 quarter inch crickets inside one rubbermaid with no lid, egg cartons, a lid with food on top of it, and have a large amount of vegetable matter on one side.
The only reason I would think you would have odor problems is if your vegetables are getting moldy, water, too much humidity, or if your crickets are dying in large numbers, OOOOOOORRRR if your crickets have been in the the 10 or 55 gallon tank and you have yet to clean it much. Overall, crickets are little poopers! They will smell, smell, and smell. Almost forgot, they require proper ventilation or it will stink horribly bad. EDIT: sterilites work too. Some rubbermaids are not cricket proof. (Can climb out). Try getting the smooth and clear seethrough rubbermaids or sterilites. |

Kritter keepers are worthless for small crix due to the ventilation slots in the top. the crixs go right thru it. An adult cricket can easily jump out of a 10 gallon tank. You will need to have a metal screen lid. I used a large sterilyte with ventilation holes in the sides covered with metal window screen.
The easiest way to transfer the crix from the container to the animal enclosure is to place a paper towel tube in the container. The crickets will go inside the roll. Lift the tube out with your hands covering the ends. Hold it over the tank and tap the end and the crixs will fall out.

I use a 10 gallon tank for all the crickets and I have a lid on it cause they can definitly jump out, it never gets smelly cause I clean it out occasionally and throw out old food items, I stoped using cricket keeps they are so small! I keep my jumping spider in one now!
