Ok, this is a new one on me, but a friend has recently told me they use crushed tums as the calcium dust for there crickets. Has anyone heard of this and what is your thoughts?

wouldnt the tums make their stomach acid go down too tho and can that hurt them?

you can use tums when and if you are in a jam. i think that the lizard's stomach acid is different from ours, so the [whatever is in tums besides calcium] doesn't affect them the same way it does us.

that said, why would you really want to? there is plenty of brands of pure calcium dust out there, and it is easy to get. i don't see how it would really save you money - calcium dust is not that expensive and tums aren't all that cheap, proportionately to volume of dust. and why would you want to feed your lizards calcium supplemented with [whatever is in tums besides calcium] when you can feed them just pure calcium?

granted, i have done it before, in a pinch...and my leopard geckos were all just fine.

Well, i stoped useing the tums Venus. i only used it for a cuple days any ways. im bak on repticalcium stuff. well thanks for tryin to get me the answer!

I know of many Ig keepers that have used crushed tums as the calcium supplement with out problem.
