2 10" female BD's.

The vet suggested no food for a day would be natural. Quote "it would happen in the wild".

I'd like to get some other peoples opinions on this before I actually go ahead and do it.

why did you take the bd to the vet? was it just a general check up or do you suspect something is wrong?

In the wild it happens naturally and also early deaths happen naturally...so I would think that in order to prolong your Bearded Dragons health and life, you would feed them daily....good luck!!

I too would like to know the reason behind the vet trip. Not that its ever a bad idea.
What was the vets reasoning for suggesting not feeding daily? Aside from "it would happen in the wild"?
Famine and starvation in humans also happens naturally.
That doesn't mean it's a good idea!
There are a lot of things that happen in the wild that we as keepers do our best to prevent.
I feed daily.

I agree with the others that we really need to know more about what you took the dragon in for, and why he felt the need to give that advise. Was he a certified reptile vet, or a cat and dog vet that just sees reptiles sometimes? That makes a big difference sometimes.

There are a lot of things that we do for our captive reptiles that they don't get in the wild. We make sure there are no predators around, make sure they have plenty of fresh, clean water, make sure they have proper vitamins and only the food that will keep them healthy. In the wild, they don't have this. Large amounts of them become prey before they reach adulthood, or because of lack of proper food or water, die early.

Whenever you hear someone say, "In the wild..." take that with a grain of salt. It's important to know where they came from so that we can adjust our care, and come to a better understanding of their natural behaviors. But their welfare comes first, and we do have to understand that even though they can survive harsh conditions in the wild, it isn't always in their best interests.
