The D3 debate

I have read on the care sheet here that D3 will be produced if the bearded dragons have a light that provides UVB. I have such a light, but I was also told (by the petstore ) to find calcium with D3. My Bearded Dragons are both babies, sorry I don't know an exact age, but definitely less than 6 months. Do I continue to give the D3 stuff?

Also, do I give the vitamin supplement with every feeding, or just once a day? Thanks!

Greetings Fanner-

Check the articles posted here:

There one for UVB and D3 by Bob MacCargar which is interesting.

The debate rages on!

And you learn very quickly that a lot of what petstore employees have to say is in direct relationship to what product they have on their counter to sell!

I know this well! I was impressed with this girl, though, in the fact that while she was talking with us about vitamins etc she was writing the name of a product that she personally recommended that we would only find at the competetors store! It was for "herpa-vite". But she also recommended the eucalyptus shavings as bedding......

Thanks!

Re: The D3 debate

You should supplement young dragons (under a year) 4-5 times a week and older dragons 2-3 time s a week.
Sprinkle the supplement on their greens as if you were shaking salt on your own food. In fact puting the supplement in a salt shaker is a good way to use it. You just don't want to use too much. Some vitamins are toxic in larger amounts.

And just out of curiosity what type of UVB bulb do you have?

I just noticed your post, and I am at work so I will have to check on the type of bulb when I get home. So far I haven't been successful at getting them to eat their veggies ~ but I'll keep trying. We have just been dusting the crickets with the powder for now. Thanks!

Re: The D3 debate

Baby Bearded Dragons will tend to eat more insects while adults eat more veggies. Try feeding the veggies in the morning and save the insects for in the evening.

It is from Zoo Med, it is "repti-sun" with 10% UVB, 30% UVA. I hope that is the right thing, it cost a small fortune!
