Feeding adult beardies - info and advice

Hi!
My oldest Bearded Dragon is almost 2 years old and had a very complicated 2nd year of life. Between puberty and brumation, he has been a terrible and irregular eater so I'm still totally unaware of adult's feeding habits.

I need to find the right balance between quantity, regularity and variety.

As feeders, most of us act like trained monkeys. We follow what we have been told and that works fine for the vast majority of the time. Hey! Worked for me, can't complain! =)
But now I need to figure this out like a nutritionist would plan a diet based on your sex, body mass, age and so on.
I want to safely decide if I'm going to feed veggies and 2 pinkies or 20 crickets or whatever each week.

Any "I do this and it works for me" it's fine and I would love to hear it, but I do prefer anything else that keeps me off the trained monkey path.

Thanks! =)

Honestly, i dont measure. Falcore is 5 yrs old an is really lazy. I feed him mixed veggies (big pile) in the am and supers every other day. As they get older it should be more veggies, less protein.

I agree with Venus, I don't measure, rather I give them what they eat in 10-15 minutes and take out the rest so it doesn't corrupt the habitat. As far as variety, I really prefer veggies to everything else with any Bearded Dragon over two.

Can't say I have a plan, Zola is super picky and I'm just happy when he eats at all. I give him his veggies daily and he picks at them somedays and others he turns his nose up at them. He's never refused live food though...ever. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Any pointers to an article or book that focus on their nutrition?

at two years of age, should be about 70% veggies, 20% insects/protein, and 10% commercial food if you choose to offer this (pellets, etc.)

Well, I've had bearded dragons for years now. Miss Priss, my first, is going on 8 years and still doing great.

The nutritional site that was posted is great.

I would highly suggest NOT feeding pinkies. While they may seem to fatten them up and such, they can be hard for the dragon to digest. Adults need 80% veggies and 20% protein in their diet, whereas babies are the opposite. About 25 crickets a week is perfect for an adult. And greens, such as collard, mustard, and turnip greens (my personal favorites to feed), should be offered daily. Instead of crickets, nice alternatives are roaches (lobsters, dubia, etc) or silkworms. I'd like to use roaches, as they breed faster and are more nutritious than crickets, but my mother will not allow one in the house. Silkworms, if used, should be fed less than crickets as they have more protein and such to them. For example, 25 crickets a week is the equivalent to 9-10 silkworms a week.

Then there is supplementation. One meal a day, six days out of the week, should be dusted with Calcium w/ D3 (Rep-cal is my favorite), and the last day one meal should be dusted with Multi-Vit (again, Rep-cal). You can dust the protein of the salad.

I hope this is helpful!
