Yay! Spike-Umms is eating!
Either he's adjusting to his new home, or he's just plain hungry. He finally ate (we got him on Saturday, and this is Thursday, so he went 5 days with no food)! He is chowing down on his salad of cactus pad, mustard greens and apple slivers.
Now, do I dust his salads with vitamins and calcium? At 1.25 years, I guess he should get vitamins maybe once a week and calcium dust... (how often?) I've offered him crickets, too, but he hasn't eaten them. I am considering getting some supers for him to try. They might stay in the salad a little longer... I'm thinking bugs/protein 2-3 times a week? BTW, is it normal for the tip of his tongue to be whitish? The rest is pink, but the tip is whitish -- but it moves fast, so I haven't gotten a good look.

Awesome Amy, glad he is settleing in
. Your right the vits and calcium should be done once a week on his veggies or whatever protein you give him also 2-3 times a week. I had a few of Bearded Dragons with the tips of the tongues white, I believe its pretty normal.Looks like you have it under control.

Speaking only from experience...My dragons wont touch their salad if I sprinkle it with Cal/D3. So I just use it on the crix. Now some dusting manufactureres suggest sprinkles daily on crix. Different companies recommend differently. Another way to get him to eat his crix is to chill them in the fridge for 10 to 20 minutes to make them almost dormant than in a separate container give the crix to him, At first mine just stare at the lifeless crix, then when they start to twitch the dragons go crazy, stealing crix from eachothers mouth running over each other to get at the next livliest one.

Thanks for the idea on feeding crix! I will try that. I got some liquid, spray-on calcium for the greens -- is that as good as the powder?
He loves the supers, and I am thinking about ordering some silkies...

I dont know about the liquid vit/cal spray.
I do know that too many supers can run the risk of impaction. Then again some say too many crix will do the same thing as well. Most people do say that silkies are less of a threat for impaction. I have yet to start mine on anything but the crix and salads. I will occasionally get the smaller mealies as treats for my dragons. One BD book that I read says that the dragons should have a supply of inverts all day (like mealies in a bowl). I'm too afraid of the risks of doing that. Besides I highly enjoy the interaction of hand feeding them as treats. Best way to get them to trust me.

Personally I have never cared for the spray on vitamins etc, Being a liquid you really can't tell how much of the supplement you are putting on, a good part of it runs off into the bottom of the bowl.
I prefer the powdered supplements. You can see what you are giving.
