Curiosity abounds. Wondering if any one has figured a way to keep the dragons from tromping through their food? I've placed their food dish on a porcelain tile to lessen the amount of substrate they track onto their food. However I still have the issues of them defecating in their food. I cant wrap my head around, if I raise their dish they will likely use it like any other piece of furniture and climb and rest on it. I was debating on a trough design that would attach to the wall, they still may climb on it but couldnt gain a comfortable perch to sit or s**t. any ideas from you geniusses?

I don't use a particulate substrate, that prevents them from dragging it into their food and i've tub trained Zola so all I have to worry about is him walking through/laying in his food and thats almost unavoidable. For the most part I jsut set the dish in the center of his cage because he usually paces the length of the walls.

Explain tub training to me please.

I solved the problem by always using a feeder tank, a habit that started for me with my snakes, which I now do with all of my herps.

I believe what Lacey mean is that she puts her beadie in the tub and he does his business in the water instead of in his cage. I don't have a problem with my Bearded Dragons using their bowl for a potty. I have three girls living together and I don't have that problem at all. But I do have the problem with my Russian Torts, they will crawl in the middle of the bowl to eat. LOL

I dont use a substrate either, I use shelf liner. But my Bearded Dragons are adults now and they dont seem to track their food anymore. Now they are lazy and I guess its too much effort.

Tub training is when you use water as a cue to go, I put zola in a tub of warm water and let him soak for about 30 minutes or until he does his business and then I wash out the tub and refil it with clean water for another 10 minutes or so of soaking.

Both my Bearded Dragons don't really ever go in the dish they will go right aside while eating or something like that but mostly they crap as far away from there food as possible! I use paper towels as a subtrate and they don't track any of it into the food!
