new to breeding
Hi, my fiance and I have two Bearded Dragons.
They live separately but we do let them bask on the porch, bathe, and walk about together. We thought they were both males until recently. I came home to Peanut laying eggs one day. Because we thought they were both males we haven't read up on breeding very much. The eggs were infertile. She has produced eggs again. They may be fertile this time around, her abdomen is fuller and bumpier than last time. I guess my questions are: how long is mating season? will they try to mate all year round? and if/when she is pregnant should we keep them apart? they are both constantly wanting to be out of their tanks. lastly, how can I tell if my male is being too aggressive, he has bitten off some of her scales. |

If the scales are being bitten off the back of her neck, that is a mating sign. In captivity they can breed year round if you decide not to brumate. If you suspect the eggs are fertile, then yes keep them apart so when she is ready to lay shes not stressed out by the male. Here is a link to our breeding article that has great information. Feel free to ask any questions you may have

The first time you see them breeding, your first reaction is "HEY! LET GO OF HER!!" But thats the way its done!
Luckily they have tough hide!

Thanks for the great info ---
I woke up this morning to her digging and noticed she did pass an egg sometime during the night. We're almost positive it's fertile, yay! Now we're eagerly waiting ![]() |

Here is the latest on Peanut.
I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not. She has laid three eggs in about a week and a half. The first was definately infertile, second almost positive it was fertile (hadn't recieved our hovabator so couldn't incubate yet), and today while we were at work she laid another one. She is not showing any signs of discomfort, lethargy, and she is carrying more eggs. She is very active and happy. Any input from experienced breeders is greatly appreicated ![]() |

That is very strange, I have never heard a Bearded Dragon laying like that before. I would say take a trip to the vet for an xray to see if she has anymore or if there is a possibility of them being stuck. Meantime you might try soaking her in some warm water to see if she will pass anymore.

Soak in the Morning
I will soak her in the morning and see what happens. I'm going to ask the vet that I work for if I can use the xray machine and take one of her. Thanks.
