Have you ever tried to candle your eggs?

Another question. Hope you don't mind.

I tried to candle the eggs tonight. I didn't see much at all. Just wondering what I am supposed to be seeing.

I have three batches of eggs in the incubator. The first is 43 days, the second is 28 days, and the third batch is 11 days old. I did not see a difference between the three batches. They all looked veiny and I did not see any masses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

Ask as many questions as you like. lol No one here is going to say otherwise. Its why the forums are here.

Seeing veins is a sign of fertility. That means that there are embryos inside, and the veins displayed are their source of oxygen and blood flow.

I am not sure how often you handle the eggs, so I will advise this just as a precation. When eggs are incubating, you want to limit the amount of time that the incubator is open. The incubator regulates its temps and when the incubator is opened, a flow of air is sent in that alters the temps in a very short period of time. Extreme temperature fluctuations can cause good eggs to go into "shock" so to speak.

As Rich said, veins are a sign of fertility. Towards the end of incubation time, (we have found after around 5/6 weeks), you may be able to see a dark mass in the shape of the baby Bearded Dragon, however this is not always the case, so just because you can't see that doesn't mean there is nothing in the egg.

We have always candled our eggs with no problem, but I have heard warnings about the light startling the babies, and causing them to move suddenly coming away from the oxygen supply and thus killing them, so I would advise against doing it too much.

Keep your temps right, your humidity up, and don't touch the eggs and you will soon have lots of babies popping out

I tend to not handle the eggs, but I just wanted to be sure that they are happy and healthy in there (especially with the mold problem).

Thank you very much for your advice! I really do appreciate it.
