Hello to all,
quick questions,
the past couple of times we've tried to take Mojo out of his tank he's been none too happy. Actually bitting seems to be the newest problem.
In the tank he is active, some head bobbing, to some degree trying to get though the glass (not hurting himself), eating well and drinking water, shedding and bathroom habits are normal.
Due to some long work hours and some family emergencies, we have not spent alot of time handling him. Other than cleaning cage and some acknowledgement each morning, extra handling is maybe a couple times a week.
My question, would the lack or interruption of his normal handling schedule cause the bitting?
Also we noticed the very tip of his tongue is white, his diet has not changed, fresh greens(greatly varied), some vegies, a small bowl of pellet dragon food (daily) and worms. Should I schedule a vet appointment?
Sorry for such a long post, trying to give as much info as possible and a little worried.
Thank you for your help!

Hi there. Sorry to hear that he has gotten a little testy. How old is he? Has he always displayed head bobbing or is that new? Are there any females around? I only ask bcuz it is my understanding that Bearded Dragons don't usually head bob in captivity unless they are trying to impress a female. If that's the case, maybe he is just in season??? I am fairly new to all of this, but I am sure that someone else with a much better knowledge base will respond soon. Keep us posted and good luck.

Hello Angel,
Not sure of age, he was a x-mas gift, buyer did not get pertnant info on him.
He's 14 inches long if that helps some how.
The head bobbin is some what new, about a month or so. No females or other bearded dragons.

This past xmas or the year before? Being 14 inches could equate to adulthood if you just received him this past xmas. Anything over a year is considered mature (to my understanding). Maybe he feels unsafe? If the head bobbing is new, I believe it is the same for Bearded Dragons as igs; the head bob can be a polite greeting or a way of saying back off. If he is "in season" he will be more tempermental (if males have a season??) If he feels unsafe or threatened, that will have to be fixed. Sorry I'm not more help to you. There are other "Bearded Dragon experts" that will respond to you soon. Marsha, Christine and Fran are pretty quick. Good luck. I will follow this thread too for future reference.

I wouldn't worry about the bobbing or the white tongue tip. Zola bobs at EVERYTHING. Shoes, dogs, cats, children, toads, dinner, pinky mice, TV, toast, rose bushes, airplanes....(get the point there) He just likes to show off how manly he is and tell everyone (and everything) that that is HIS cage and no one is going to mess with it.
He also has a white tip on his tongue, it has always been that way, atleast since I got him in october of '04.
As for him getting bitey, it might be because h isnt being handled as often, if I go away for a couple of days Zola will get that way too, but he snaps out of it real quick.

At 14" he can be a year old at least. Some grow faster and reach that age around 8 or 9 months.

Hi Mom
I wouldnt worry about the white tip either. He could just be telling you, hes lacked attention and is acting out . Try to handle him a lilttle bit each day and see if that ceases his bitting. I am not sure what else could cause it other than like you said...the "schedule interruption".
