Too Docile

Exactly how docile should a juvi bearded dragon be? Mine doesn't do ANYTHING. He lays around in one spot, then when he's tired of that spot he moves to another spot and lays there. This morning he was laying down while pooping and urinating. You could see the newspaper soaking up the moisture right underneath him and he just laid in it. I took him out this morning and noticed an apparent swollen spot on his wrist. He didn't have this spot on the other wrist so it concerns me a bit. I put some crickets in there and he wasn't interested. Of course it was early, and the temps weren't up at the time but when he is hungry, he can move pretty quick. So would I be best off just taking him to the vet? By the way, I have a megaray 100w self ballasted and a ceramic heat emitter to keep temps up. Temps are usually between 105 and 110 on the basking side.

Re: Too Docile

Sometimes a vet visit is justified there, to be safe rather than sorry. It can't hurt.

What sort of supplements do you give him?

Re: Too Docile

I give him that rep-cal calcium powder on his crickets. And I have tried to get him to eat that rep cal bearded dragon pellets but he doesnt seem interested.

Re: Too Docile

He drank a lot of water yesterday too. That little guy was thirsty. I bring him into the kitchen and turn on the faucet and he perks his little head up. I put one hand under the running water and put him near my hand and he drinks the water off my hand. I keep a very small water/food dish in his tank with food pellets in one section and water in the other but I'm not sure if he's drinking it or not. And I feed his crickets those fluckers orange cubes so the crickets should be transferring plenty of water and nutrients as well.

Re: Too Docile

Do you soak him a couple times a week? Is he eating his veggies? Do you leave the crickets in the tank when he doesn't eat them?

Re: Too Docile

I soak him a few times a week. He won't eat his greens if I put him in a dish but if I lay them in the tank somewhere he will. And his crickets stay in the tank until he decides to eat. Is it possible they are stressing him out?

Re: Too Docile

Crickets bite which may be the cause of his arm swelling. Do NOT leave them in the tank. You need to feed him in a separate container. You need to try feeding him greens in the AM and crickets in the PM, if need be, skip a cricket feeding to make him real hungry so he will eat his veggies.

Re: Too Docile

I'll do that then. What veggies other than greens do you recommend?
