Re: Sleeping Beardie
Called Petco bout 30 minutes ago. Told the GM the wonderful news, he breathed a sigh of relief. Was more than willing to still have Zeke checked out for me. So what's gonna happen is tomorrow i'm working in the town where the petco is, i'm gonna drop zeke off at the store with a manager and she will take him over to their vet, call me from there and let me know what's wrong at that point. Maybe this petco semi-cares. he was even willing to arrange an appointment for me to take zeke to their vet but I didn't want to stress him out by having him run around with me all day long.

Re: Sleeping Beardie
Just talked to Petco, the vet says that Zeke was dehydrated...they gave him an injection of baytril, then they soaked him, instructions were to continue soaking him twice a day, and they want to see him back on friday. i'm sure glad to know what's wrong now.

Re: Sleeping Beardie
They must have thought something else was wrong besides dehydration if they gave him baytril. That's an antibiotic.
And good that he pooed out the calci-sand. As you can see for yourself, its NOT digestible!

Re: Sleeping Beardie
exactly, however, petco would not authorize an x-ray so there may still be a clump of it left in him. on the upside of all this, he was acting much better tuesday night, he was trying to get out of his tank so I decided to let him out and he explored the house, (of course I was always withing reach, didn't want him running off on me after all) and he crawled all over me checkin' me out.
oh, one other thing, is their poo supposed to stink something fierce? cuz his sure did, heck I had a small piece of it in a baggie and it actually managed to permeate the baggie!!!!

Re: Sleeping Beardie
Runny, extremely foul smelling poo is often indicative of an internal parasite problem. Would be a good idea to take a sample to a vet for screening.
Of course since the poor thing was also blocked up, the poop was literally rotting inside of him.

Thank you again everyone who responded. I'm get to go pickup Zeke in a couple hours soon as I get off work. I'm so excited and I hope he's back to full health again.

Re: Sleeping Beardie
Any update on Zeke?
If he is young and eating mostly live foods, yes it smells. I have heard that if you feed roaches instead of crickets the poop smell stops striping the paint in the room. lol
We have recently changed from brown crickets to black ones, I dropped the tub of gutloaded dusted browns and they scattered, 3 weeks later we are still hearing them in every inaccessible corner. :-( The blacks seem much slower and easy to catch, as well as being meatier and juicier.

Re: Sleeping Beardie
Wow, I can't believe I missed this post. Okay, he's doing great now, I recently put him in a 40 gal breeder, with a megaray bulb. He's up and active now too. I'm so glad petco let me keep him. Thanks for asking too!
