A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour.
Hi guys, wondering if anyone can help me,
I just have a question about bathing my bearded dragon and if anyone can answer that would be great.
I gave my baby bearded dragon a bath for the first time today, he didn't seem to like it very much, kept trying to get out. I had the water at lukewarm temperature as I read that was how it should be and also my Bearded Dragon went to the bathroom and I heard that this was normal as the lukewarm water helps this along. The problem is the poor guy was absolutely terrified! When he wasn't frantically trying to get out he was just standing there looking up at me. Is there a good way to bathe my Bearded Dragon baby, how often should I do it, how long should I leave him in the water and how deep can the water be (I'm scared he'll drown!!) Also the girl from the pet shop told me Bearded Dragons don't really like water at all, is this true?

Re: A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour
It's actually something he will most likely learn to like. Mine was terrified also when he had his first few baths. Now he loves it. Just enough lukewarm water where he can safely stand in is fine. In my case I just use the bathtub, the gradient makes it where the water is anywhere from 2 inches deep to almost nothing.

Re: A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour
When I gave mine baths, I would put a towel in the bottom of the tub so they had something they could walk on without their feet sliding all over the place...

Re: A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour
Yeah, I've found that it really calms down mine when something is on the bottom to grip too. I usually put a handtowel in there, but in general Fitzgerald doesn't seem to especially enjoy his baths. He's been getting weekly to biweekly baths for aboaut 5 months now and while he'll tolerate them, he's happy to get out.

Re: A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour
It depends on the dragon!
Our female really doesn't care for baths,....
but the male swims like a fish!

Re: A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour
Ours always enjoyed their baths. We made sure they were comfortable by giving them something to hang onto though. We kept an incline in their little tub so they could go from shallow to deeper. Dante liked to swim, the other one would just stand on top of Dante. It is something most will get used to. They liked their baths, because they were exceptionally messy with their food and would get it all over themselves, then want to be clean.

Re: A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour
my 2 get baths every other day to keep them Hydrated, they do learn to like it. I keep the water around 100 degrees and they will swim forever. It is very normal for them to go potty in the bath.

Re: A Question or Two About My Beardie's Behaviour
100 degrees really isn't that hot. Your body temperature is 98 degrees. 100 degree water would just barely feel warm.
