Not a Morning Dragon
Loki used to wake up and crawl out immediately in the morning after we turned on his daytime light, but in the last week or two he has been crawling back under his hideaway log instead. He has been staying up a little later because my husband and I often work late, but hiding out until noon just doesn't seem right. Nothing else about his behavior seems unusual or sickly, but I wanted to know if maybe he isn't rested enough or if I should be concerned at all.

Re: Not a Morning Dragon
Do you have his lights set up on a timer?

Re: Not a Morning Dragon
I would be sure to have his lights on a timer, so its on and off at the exact same time, all the time.

Re: Not a Morning Dragon
I know I'm the third person to say this, but it's very important for his lights to be on a timer. if his light goes on at the same time and off at the same time everyday, there shouldn't be a problem. even if you have lights on in the room that he's in, the lack of UV and daylight bulb will signal to him that it's time for bed. If you fluctuate the time the lights go on and off, it would be the equivalent of us going to bed a midnight and waking up at 6 one day, and going to bed at 2am and then waking up at 12 the next day. It will screw up his schedule.

Re: Not a Morning Dragon
His lights are on a timer, but he has a nighttime light as well. Between that and our living room lights (my husband and I work late, so we're up after his lights go off), he likes to stay awake and beg for our attention.

Re: Not a Morning Dragon
the nighttime light...is it blue, red or white? if it's white, then it doesn't work. you need one that emits heat but not light, such as an infrared heat emitter. These work best. Also, if you find that you leave the lights on in the same room the he is, you ca put a towel or something around his cage, so it's not bright in there.

Re: Not a Morning Dragon
My Chinese Water Dragon would stay up until all the lights in my room were out, including the computer monitor, most nights I would just put a towel around the enclosure so they would go to sleep

Re: Not a Morning Dragon
His nighttime light is blue. It is supposed to emit heat suitable for tropical/desert environments without emitting excess light. It seems to do that; we can't tell if it's on until all the other lights in the room are off.
