re: Weird or Normal?

No. Can you tell us more about his enclosure, substrate, etc? Usually they will test things with their tongues but I've never seen one try to eat a rock. Do you have rocks as his substrate.

re: Weird or Normal?

His main substrate is sand, large flat rocks for climbing, cold side is 75, basking area 103, Under Tank Heater, 40gal long, enclosure with some artificial plants for decoration. He is fed twice a day, with treats inbetween. He is fed greens and fruit 3 times a week, crix and superworms dailly, misted regularly, and bathed 2 times a week and has full sprectrum reptile lighting, turned on @ 7am, turned off @10pm.

re: Weird or Normal?

Does it look like it is actually trying to eat the rock or is it more rubbing the mouth on it? Open the dragon's mouth and see if anything looks off.

Bulbs labeled "full spectrum" are only referring to the color of the visible light produced and do not generate UVB.
If it doesn't specifically say UVB,... it isn't.

re: Weird or Normal?

My dragon is an idiot, he'll taste anything.
He would eat anything he could fit in his mouth, I remedied the problem by putting him on carpet with LARGE pieces of slate so he can't get anything.

Re: Weird or Normal?

It's uva/uvb lighting. Maybe it was just a phase, he's not doing it now. Might have been just trying to get the dust that fell off when I dropped the dusted crix in. Crazy leeeeezard, lol he is a bit of a character, thats for sure. Thanks for the responses.

Re: Weird or Normal?

I would get him off the sand, it has been known to cause impaction. I use shelf liner or tiles.

Re: Weird or Normal?

If he's old enough. Sand is ok. A very very fine sand is anyway.

Re: Weird or Normal?

Another thing, stop misting the enclosure, it should stay dry in there. You can try and drip some on his head and see if he laps it up with his tongue, if he doesn't then he's not thirsty. The first time I sprayed some water in the tank, my Bearded Dragon went nuts for it, lickin it off his tree and the sides of the tank. He was really thirsty. Now I just keep a very small dish in his tank with food and water and it seems that he's drinking the water straight out of the dish.

Not exactly. Though less of one than the calcium sand it is still a risk that some choose to take.
I choose not to.
