Re: Leopard Geckos & Bearded Dragons
Geckogirl, I understand where you're coming from. I, personally, would love to have a true wild environment set up where I could house several different species of reptiles - and maybe some insects - and watch them all interact together. But I think that's just going to have to be a vacation idea at some point in the distant future.
Also, as caring creatures ourselves, we pass our need to make friends on to our beloved pets. We want companionship, so we assume they do as well. But they are solitary creatures who really don't have the capacity to emotionally bond to other animals. Putting them together generally just puts them in a situation where they feel they are competing for food. Putting two different species together - especially when one is carnivorous or omnivorous and the other is small, pretty much sets them up to react in a predator/prey manner. They tend not to last long.
I wish it were different, but then, if it were, they wouldn't be the wonderful creatures we've all come to love so much.
