Hello, I made a new cage for my two ball pythons and I need some help with the lighting. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a heat bulb the size of a regular light bulb?? I have never seen one myself. Any ideas or suggestions of someplace in Pennsylvania that might carry them would be greatly appreciated.

Ceramic Heat Emitter's are the size of a regular light bulb and fit in the available sockets.
Just make sure the socket is porcelain.
Ceramic Heat Emitter's get very hot and will melt a standard plastic socket.

Petsmart and Petco both carry heat emitters but you can find them online for about half of what they would cost at at store.

They have red and black heat lights and they start at 60 watts. Merlin is right all these items used to heat get very hot!

Regular bulbs produce heat as well. Depending on how hot and dry you want it and how much space you have anything from a 40 watt to a 100 watt could do it for you.

There are smaller red heat bulbs as well. But they don't do an efficient job of heating a larger enclosure.

The Mega Ray HP is also a lightless heat source and MUCH safer than a Ceramic Heat Emitter. I use one over the blood python's water pan to help with heat and humidity. It's a more focussed heat "projection" making it easier to control the heat in smaller spaces. I have been curious about the MR heat projectors but have not gotten around to trying one yet.
As I read the write up, it only warms the animal not the environment.
Or am I misunderstanding.
I can't see it being a good thing to keep the animal's body warm, when they are breathing cold air.

It's not just the animal it warms, but it does use a tighter and more controlled "beam?" of heat for the area you intend it for instead of wasting a lot of heat swathing an unused area such as what the Ceramic Heat Emitter does.

Some people still prefer a larger heated area...and for really big animals the Ceramic Heat Emitter works better such as with large monitors, burms, etc. I've used it on Zair with good results. I wouldn't use it on something larger than an adult ig, though.

Personally...I like the MR HPs enough that even with a larger animal I might buy two for heat projection rather than the Ceramic Heat Emitter.
