just curious, Are there any Reasons not to use a dimmer on a Mega Ray bulb,
My Skinks basking spot is too high, and I want to reduce the temp a bit, but im curious if putting a dimmer on would have any adverse effects on the bulb, or the UVB produced?
Its a 100 Watt Self Ballasted Bulb.

Unless I am mistaken you cannot use a dimmer on a mercury vapor bulb. If you are having a heat problem, move the lamp farther away.

I Kind of thought that might be the case, glad I asked before I tried it.

All my lamps sit right on my tank lids, Whats the best way to raise a light without using one of those $25 lamp stands?

I use an aluminum starter collar with flange. I took one of my domes, placed the column in it and then screwed it in place with self tapping screws. Home Depot and Lowes will know what it is. It only took 3 screws to keep it from moving. The aluminum helps to reflect the light as well.

I just prop mine up on bricks....
