What Do You Do with Your Old Bulbs

So I try to keep up with the new light every 6 months rule as best I can remember. I just replaced my repti 5.0 for my Chinese Water Dragon today because of that rule (the rule of thumb I read in care sheets and such says after 6 months the UVA/UVB is dimished, even though the bulb still produces light) After replacing it, it's clear that the new one gives off much stronger light, as is always the case, but I've still got like 3 "working" bulbs sitting around in various closets.

Has anyone come up with anything to use them for. I'm thinking of getting another fixture, and using them for reading lights, or ambient background light when watching movies, without having to have the over heads on.

We use them in our garage and basement features.

I'd upgrade to a 10.0. Its better for your dragon.

Re: What Do You Do with Your Old Bulbs?

oh yeah, I TAKE your old bulbs. My frogs don't require UVB, so the old used lights are great for me.

Re: What Do You Do with Your Old Bulbs?

You can donate them to a rescue. Some of them have UV meters and can use them for reptiles that don't need much UVB.

Or you can use them as normal bulbs.

Re: What Do You Do with Your Old Bulbs?

You could also pick up a UVB meter for yourself. That way you KNOW when to change bulbs and don't have to just use the 6 month timeline!
The meter will pay for themselves .
