Sunseeker Bulbs

hi I have been looking around at all of the different MV bulbs available and came across a few SUNSEEKER bulbs on Ebay for what seems to be very cheap. I emailed the seller and he would send me 2 160W mv bulbs for 50$

so either it is a good deal or it is a scam......what do you guys think????

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???

I haven't heard of sunseeker, to be honest I only trust the Megarays from Welcome To ReptileUV - Mega-RayŽ UVB lamps for reptile lighting worldwide. That way you know where they are coming from and they have a great warranty on them. They really aren't all too expensive considering how long they last and how well they work.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???

I have one of the sunseeker bulbs, its 100 watt, but regretably I dont have the tools availible to check if it emits UVB, just kind of go by how my skink acts, it looks pretty solid, and in his tank he has two basking spots, one on the hot side, and one in the middle, it helps keep the ambient air up more than just one, ive noticed the skink will bask at either, but he seems to enjoy the uvb over the other, though that could be because ones at 101+ degrees and ones about 90 degrees I looked it up online, and it seemed okay, ive found them for sale at other websites, I paid a bit less than 15 bucks, but I really wish I could find somewhere to check the UVB output, i keep thinking about buying a meter, but when only one of my animals needs uvb its a bit pricey to buy one now.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???

yea I have been debating on getting a few mega rays but I have found that whn the MV get moved around alot they seem to burn out and flicker alot faster than they should. My waterdragons lights will be stationary but the light I use for my Bearded Dragon has to be moved a few times a day. currently I am using SOLARglo MV bulbs for him and I burn one out every 3 months

i know it is because of me moving it so frequently but there is very little I can do to avoid it. so I am wondering if the megarays are as fragile as the solarGlo in that respect

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???

1) Turn off MV lamp.
2) Let cool 15 minutes.
3) Move to new location.

This saves the life of a MV bulb that should not be moved when hot.

OK, here's what I think:
Mega-Ray is the best. It's a matter of do you want the best, or something less expensive and more convenient for you. I somehow suspect if you wanted the latter, you would have purchased an inexpensive pre-decorated backwall for your Chinese Water Dragon's. LOL

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???

yea good point dom......makes sense!!! EVERYONE says megaray is the BEST so there must be something about these bulbs thats makes them so superior to all the other brands.

i will just suck it up and get the mega rays, might as well do it right the first time!!!

thanks

ps. The background and enclosure is for Chinese Water Dragons not frogs :P

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???

Here's the recent response from UV Meter Owners Group when asked about Sun Seekers:

"my god!!!!! Is this **** still on the market. Zero UV after one hour of use. These have been around since the year 2000.

BM

Hello!

Unfortunately, I have seen some of those so-called MVB's called Sun
Seekers on a few sites. I can't remember the sites offhand, but it
was within the last few months anyway. Cruddy cruddy bulbs!

Welcome to the club, soon you too will be singing their praises. I saw a marked difference in activity levels of my Bearded Dragon when I went from fluorescents to mega-ray lighting.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???

Still wish I could test my bulb, thought I had found a good deal on a replacement since my cat decided to jump on top of my skinks cage, what kinda sucks the most is about half of the caresheets on schneiders out there say they may not need UVb through a light, but hey, better to have something you dont need then need something you dont have.

Hey Ryan- Come on down to New Bern, NC! I can test your lamps here with my UVB Meter.

Or we could bring them to Bob Mac's shop and he can test them, then sell you a Mega Ray. LOL

Seriously, join the Yahoo group (Meter Owners Group) and see if there is anyone local to you who has a meter. Then you can just meet up with that person and get the lamps tested. We have done this in the past for folks who do not have a meter.
