Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???
haha, tempting Dom. I joined the UVB_Meter_Owners group, now to just find someone nearby. I think im going to see if the petstore I just started working for sells them, shipping on lightbulbs is usualy killer, but it is a petco, so I doubt they do.
On the mega ray note, what has everyone heard about the Mega-Ray® HP - 60 Watt Lightless Infra-Red Heat Projector, im interested in it for my arboreal vivarium im building. Also, im curious, whats the big difference in self ballasted and external ballasted.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???
Mega-Ray HP Heat Projector= Aim it at the spot you want to heat, it heats that spot. Unlike radiant heat emitters, which emit heat from the source all the way to the subject. The HP is more efficient and safer than the HE. You can touch it while it's on and not get burned!
Self Ballasted- The ballast is contained in the lamp. This is the component that degrades over time and causes pre-mature failure of the lamp. This is the light/heat lamp. External Ballast- The revolutionary and exclusive ReptileUV design. The ballast is separate from the lamp (it's a black box with a switch). The ballast being outside the lamp causes the lamp to be more stable and the ballast to last longer (up to two years or more). Replacement lamps for EB kits are the same price as SB lamps, but last 2x as long and emit better UVA and UVB (in microwatts/centimeter squared), in the critical UVB range than any other lamp on the market. So, for the best UVB in a longer-lasting lamp, with the indistries best warranty, the EB kit is the way to go. But remember, you get no heat from the EB lamp, just excellent UV. So, there you have it in a nutshell.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???
Cool, thanks Dom, so with the external ballasted lamp do you just replace the lamp, or do you replace the ballast? sounds like just the lamp, but im not positive.
That external ballasted mega ray, sounding very tempting, without a UVb meter though I guess you really dont get your full moneys worth outta them though. haha guess I could always max out another credit card replacing the lighting system, UVB meter, getting all my tanks switched over to radient heat, and buying my gecko his 20 high enclosure. lol. Soooo tempting, but I just paid it off from last time I went on a spree.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???
Yes, you only change the bulb.
Mega Ray is the best bang for the buck in UVB. Way more consistent UVB than any other lamp. You don't need a meter to tell you that your Mega Ray is pumping UVB. We have proved this over and over and over again. Check out UVGuideUK. You can see the spreadgraph of the Mega Ray there and also others. Judge for yourself based on hard testing data.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???
Not arguing it would pump out a good amount of uvb one bit, there's plenty of hard evidence of that, but without a meter you wouldnt know for sure if it was pumping out UVb past a year.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???
Concerning those Sunseeker bulbs, are they the Chinese brand? I've heard about some cheap Chinese brand bulbs. Apparently they vary in UVB so much that one will give off no UVB and the next one will give off dangerous amounts of it. When will people realize if you buy something imported from China--it's crap. Made over there because of cheaper materials and labour costs.

Re: Sunseeker Bulbs???
yeah definitly not defending these sunseeker bulbs here guys, i thought I got a good deal, enough evide nce out there sayin im wrong, i want to test it, but only for my curiosity, im not going to gamble on my skinks health on that, im just stuck between self ballasted, and external ballasted, if I had a Uv meter, it would definity be external ballasted, without it im not sure as much.
