1ST CWD Project

Hey Guys,

I was working on this project for a while now. Relatives came from out of country so I had to slow down.

So here is my question:
Where should I install the lighting? inside of the cage with light sockets?
or Should I make circular wholes on top of the cage and attach the lamps outside?

Dont forget that the walls will be climable and it is 4' tall.

Thanks!

PS

Kriminaal: This project will soon be complete I am painting it with epoxy in the next two weeks...

Rich: Will the old HH thread be moved to HC?

Hey Meki, the thread may be moved at some point, just not sure when.

I would think if the walls are going to be climable, I would afix the lights to the outside of the cage if possible.

Yes, you don't want it so the little guys could get burnt by the light. cut out holes for them on the top of the enclosure and add some sort of wire mesh to keep them away from the light but let the heat in.

Dilema

Yeah.... I agree with the idea with the positioning on the outside and making holes in the roof....

But the problem is that the cage is soo huge that I am afraid that there will be not enough heat or UVB available at the bottom of the cage....

I am thinking of putting it inside and adding some sort of wire mesh around the light. The walls swill not be climbable all the way to the top there will be distance of probably 7'' from the highest point of the wall till the roof.

Any ideas?

I don't think 7" is going to make or break the heat at the bottom. I think you will be OK. A 100 watt bulb heats LOTS of space. They will find basking spots up top if they want to be warmer and this will give them a cool escape to get away from the heat as well. I think it would be safer to have the blubs up top. Since you have so much upward space, make some platforms and places for them to rest under the bulbs. They will get it!

Sigh....

I sooo don't want to make a hole on the top...

Ok... Here is a new challenge to everybody!
If the only option os to attach the bulb on the inside of the cage, is there a way to protect the CWDs from it?

like a mesh of some sort?
