more lighting questions - UVB
Currently in my vivarium, I have a UVB 24" tube light. I also have a 60watt bulb for heat and a blue light at 50 watts at night. Before I had the 60 watt bulb I had a 100 watt, UVB bulb. It was heating the tank to much, and drying out my substrate and making things too dry.
Since I have no frogs in there yet, I just added a household bulb too see about temps and humidity. Seems like I have those right now.
my question is, do I need to get a UVB bulb in addition to the 24" tube light, or is that tube good enough with the regular household bulb?
I can't even remember if dumpy tree frogs need UVB like reptiles do. Also maybe the plants need the extra UVB?
Of course this is a new problem because if I do need a UVB bulb, do I go down to a 50watt or up to a 75 since I haven't seen a 60watt available.

They do not need the UVB... Actually seeing as they are usually nocturnal I doubt they get much UVB in the wild anyways... I won't hurt them but isn't needed.

cool. i'll stick with the regular household bulb and the UVB flurescent then. It should be enough for the frogs. I know they are nocternal but they do get some UVB during the day hours when they are napping. Hopefully its enough for my plants too. I guess if my plants stop growing, I'll know I need it.
I'll probably go down to a 25 watt night bulb for the summer too. Its getting warm!

yeah, but I think my plants need SOME.
Got too hot in the tank today. Max temp up to 85. I put in some more plexi to keep the humidity, guess i'll go down to a 45 watt.

UVB is not as crucial for plants as it is for herps. Plants respond to light in the mainly red and blue ranges. I gardened indoors for years using only a combination of cool white and warm white flourescent bulbs. I grew everything from tropical bonsai to african violets.
