Color change starting!

It looks like Crichton is starting to change. The deep burgundy markings are fading to a more lavendar/pink and there are some spots of light blue in them already! There's a light "dirty wash" of green coming in along the top of his sides and some spots which are really noticeably green. He's also developed a few white spots along his sides...
This is exciting stuff for me!!! The recent pics aren't that great: he's due for a shed sometime soon, but I wanted to document the color change bit by bit.
Here's a pic from July as a comparison of the red markings:

And here he is today: Just getting a quick bath: (See how much the markings have faded?)

More pics in the next post!

Spots

Here are two pics showing some of the spots:
Right to left: a small blue spot and a larger area of green

And a closeup of his pretty face!

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for posting those Andrea. I definately have one on the list but want to wait until I can get them into a decent size enclosure. How long is the color change going to take and have both of them started?

Hi Cody
Only Crichton has started changing: he's a year old and Aeryn is just over 5 months. The color change process can start anywhere after 6 months and varies considerably not just between regional types but in individuals. I've heard of some people's chondros literally changing color over-night! In general it can take anywhere from 15 days to 15 months (what a range, huh?) to completely change. So I'll only be able to say for sure he's done after about a year and a half from now!
Aeryn might start changing next month, but then again it might take her another half year to start... ?????
Definitely one of the most amazing things about this species of snake: you really don't know what they'll look like when they're older!

Great pics! Keep taking pictures and documenting the changes. It will be interesting to see how long it takes him and exactly how the changes progress.

Thanks everyone
We'll definitely keep taking pics... I'm hoping he'll shed soon, though. Actually a couple of my babies are due to shed... last time they were all synchronized and shed the same evening! Wild huh?
