Yeah! Nathan's iguana won't barely touch a banana, but LOVES anything red of course lol! His dad used to have an iguana who loved bananas more than anything in the world though.. Just like people they have tastes

Re: What if My Green Iguana.....

Usually "blue iguanas" are just another sub-species of green iguana, they are just turquoise-y.

And many of my igs have not liked bananas. I was worried at first too, but I figured it was just like humans, different tastes for different igs/people. Like my male... loves mangos, hates papaya, and only tolerates mustard greens. My juvie female..... loves papayas, mustards, and doesn't like mangos as much, but does like them. Did not like hibiscus leaves or flowers for the longest time, now tolerates them. My little female.... likes papaya, sort of likes mango, not as big a fan of raspberries. It's all about preference.

Don't worry about the bananas. Those are just an occassional treat anyway.

Re: What if My Green Iguana.....

Bananas should be fed sparingly so it's nothing to worry about if your iguana chooses not ot eat them.

What else are you feeding? We may have some suggestions for foods that our iguanas enjoy that you haven't tried yet.

Re: What if My Green Iguana.....

The bananas are better for you than for the iguana!!!

Collard, Mustard and turnip greens, yellow squash, should be a big part of their diet. They really do well on a very varied diet, try to give them at least four different veggies with each meal and mix it up thoroughly so they get the benefit of everything together. Try them sometimes with different fruit like mango and strawberry.

I remember going into the pet shop here and really quarelling with the employees about how their young igs were fed. One big flat plastic dish with a pile of crushed papaya on one side and at the other end, a pile of crushed iceberg lettuce. Easy to see that they did not thrive and did not receive even the benefit of both offerings together, for what little they were worth! More than half of the little iguanas died before being sold. In my care, which came too late for them.

Check out a good iguana diet sheet.

Re: What if My Green Iguana.....

Igs are mainly leaf eaters and when I feed greens, I just chop them up and put them on a plate. When I feed fruit, I put the fruit in a food proccesor with greens and puree it with a little bit of fresh water for a good hydrating meal that still looks green but has the added vitamins of the fruit.

The Iguana I have was labled a Costa Rican "Blue" when it got a little older than a baby, It turned somewhat turquise from the shoulders up to the face and when it got a little older, The turquise faded out to a somewhat light gray and the tail turned red like a red Iguana. So you can't go by what the description says when it's sold as a baby. Green Iguanas come in varying shaded of different colors but they are all green iguanas.
There is actually a blue iguana, but it is an endangered species and is not sold legally in the US.
